TOPIC 1: ANSWERING QUESTIONS PROPERLY

TOPIC 1: CONDITIONAL QUESTIONS (2ND CONDITIONAL)
It is really important to remember the following steps when answering a question.
STEP ONE: Answer briefly and reason your answer.
• If it is a yes/no question, answer with the auxiliary verb given.
EXAMPLES: (Yes, I would/No, I wouldn´t)
Afterwards, reason your answer.
EXAMPLES: (First of all, because…Secondly, …)
• If it is a “WH-“ question, you have to answer with connectors and sound natural.
EXAMPLES: (Well, let me think….; Personally, I consider that…; Yes, Absolutely, because in my opinion…; No, Not at all…; Well, not really….)
STEP TWO: Elaborate a proper answer as an advanced student in order to be more explicit in your explanations.
• In the first place….Firstly, Secondly…
• From my point of view… In my opinion….
• In addition to that…. / Besides …. (Además de eso…)
• However… / on the contrary…. (Sin embargo…/por el contrario…)
• So…. / that is why…. / that is the reason why…( por eso…)
• Not only….., but also….. ( no solo, sino también)
• Honestly…./ to be honest…. / I´m under the impression that…
• Under no circumstances… (bajo ninguna circunstancia)
• Given that… (dado que….)
• Moving on… ( cambiando de tema)
STEP THREE: Close your answer with a summary of what you said:
• In other words, … (en otras palabras)
• To sum up…. ( resumiendo…)
• To put it in a nutshell… (en resumidas cuentas…)

EXAMPLE: What would you do if you had just 24 hours left to live?
“Well, let me think… In the first place, I think I would visit all the members of my family to say goodbye.
Secondly, I´d go to an ATM and I´d withdraw all my money to spend it, not only to help the needy but also on presents for my parents. Given that I´m going to die, I wouldn´t need any money. However, under no circumstances would I leave the money in the bank.
To be honest, I don´t think that a situation like that could ever happen, so I don´t have anything to worry about.”

1.TALKING ABOUT SCHOOL-TIME

Situation: Two friends are talking about their past time in primary education. Assk questions to each other about your experiencies.
A: you were quite a troublesome student who used to fail most of your subjects, tease on teachers and bring your homework undone to school.
B: you were an outstanding student who used to get brilliant marks and distinction.
Teachers loved you and you have been given several scholarships and grants.

UNIT 6 TOPICS

TOPIC 1: BUYING A TRAIN TICKET.

A: Customer: you go to the ticket office at the train station. You want to go to Cambridge at 5pm by train. Buy a return ticket. Ask about the platform number and the possibility to go by bus. You have a student card to get a discount but you forgot it. Ask the ticket officer for information (maps, leaflets, places to go) about Cambridge.

B: Ticket officer: Give the customer the info required.

TOPIC 1: TALKING ABOUT A BOOK / MOVIE


Talk about your favorite movie. Where did you watch it? With whom? Why is it the one you like the best?
Now talk about:

Location: geographically (by a mountain, river, lake, valley, prairie...)
Atmosphere: lively, busy, noisy, romantic, natural, touristy, rural, traditional, magical, urban, peaceful, quite, tropical…
Describe the old town: squares, gardens,castles, parks, waterfront, beach…
Best restaurant in town: It specialises in…; the menu is (varied, extravagant…)
Things to do in your free time: (you are a risk taker )Beach sports (surf, scuba diving, rock climbing…) Shopping (malls, street markets, big stores…) Mountain sports ( trekking, hang-gliding, parachuting, white waters rafting)
